Blast Off! — L2 Here I Come!

Well, I'm not exactly going to L2 "literally." If you've wondering where I have been, I have, however, had my head out there for much of the autumn. I’ve been "lax" at polishing up my new posts for SmartStars. But, I have a good excuse. It’s because I have been preparing a couple of talks and will be presenting them on the road this coming month.

I want to give a special welcome to all the new Seestar S50 owners. I know their numbers are growing quickly. I haven't receive mine yet, but I intend these blog postings to be owners of all these wonderful instruments. I try hard not to endorse any of these telescopes and don't profit from this blog at all.

TALK 1:

Smart Stars — A Report on the Current Revolution in Smart Telescopes

This will be for the Peoria Astronomical Society. It will be held at the Peoria Riverfront Museum on November 1 at 7:00 PM. I will also be demonstrating both my eVscope and Vespera at that time on their observing plaza. It looks like it will be clear, but cold. Here’s the link to more information.

TALK 2:

Findings from the James Webb Space Telescope's First Year

This will be for my club, the Naperville Astronomical Association, at the Naperville Municipal Center, Downstairs Meeting Room B. It will be held at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, November 21.

You may find a bit more information — directions at least — at the Naperville Astronomical Association’s web site.

I'm not sure that readers of this blog will be able to attend these, but if you’re in north to central Illinois, you’re definitely invited.

I also will be presenting a version of this JWST talk at a senior center associated with the University of Chicago mid November too, but it’s not open to the public. This one is a bit scary for me because this is where some of my former professors have been in residence as well as Nobel Laureates. Yikes!

COMING SOON

Stay tuned for some interesting blog topics again in a couple weeks:

  • I have one brewing involving a conversation between Richard Feynman and Galileo about seeing photons from the deep universe, including a cameo appearance by John Dobson.

  • I also have been working on one about the challenge of photo-bombing by low earth satellites too.

  • And finally, I really, really want to address the challenges of post processing our photos. I know there are lots of discussions about this topic. I hope you’ll find my perspective a little helpful and anxiety reducing too. Stay tuned.

Finally, I consider the JWST as well as the soon to be completed Giant Magellan Telescope as my telescopes too. I urge everyone to contribute to their favorite university partner for projects like the latter. If you're an American or European (or Australian or Japanese?) taxpayer you're already contributing to the JWST.
